Research has shown that your feet change every 2 years. It is my belief that we are not designed for hard surfaces in which we engage everyday. The continual impact places immense amount of stress to our feet and bodies over a life time. As a Podiatrist I'm tolded by patients, "I use to wear a size 9 but now I wear a size 10". "My feet are painful when I stand and walk on those concrete floors."
I believe every individual should have an orthotic to manage the biomechanical stress that we endure throughout the years. For instance there has been a push in recent years for "barefoot running." I agree with the logic if you are running on "nature" materials such grass, dirt, and loose grave. But humans have not been designed to run on hard ,non -forgiving surfaces such as asphalt and concrete.
Someday we as a society will wake-up and realizes the foot, ankle, knee, and low back issues arise from the years of flat hard surfaces.
In future blogs I will discuss simple things that everyone can under take to decrease these forces.
