Ganglion cyst of the foot are very common. Dr. Jeffrey Kauffman in York, PA sees ganglion cyst several times a week. Patient will relates that they are pain or not painful. Pain from ganglion depends mainly on the location and if the cyst is impinging on any nerves.
If the area is "growing" in size you should have the area look at by a doctor. In the office we will pass light through the cyst. If it is translucent it increases the probability of a cyst. Non-translucent increase the possibility of other soft tissue masses.
Further test can included xrays, diagnostic ultrasound, and MRI.
Treatments range from observation, aspiration with steroid injection, to surgical removal and pathological evaluation.
