Most patient will relates that rashes on the feet are foot fungus or tinea pedis. 25% of scaly, dry, itch skin on the feet is not fungus. The definitive diagnosis is a punch skin biopsy that can examined by a pathologist. The key before the biopsy is stopping all medicated creams or lotions to the area for 3 weeks prior to the test. The medication such as steroid creams can suppress the pathology in the skin and not allow the pathologist to definitively diagnosis the skin specimen.
